Wills

We hold only a small collection (about 400) of office-copy wills for the 18th-20th centuries, mostly from local solicitors' offices.

Try looking for wills in these places....

  • The Somerset Record Office, Taunton, for wills proved in the Bath and Wells diocese before 1859.
  •  The Documents Online section of the National Archives website for wills of people who owned property in more than one diocese - their will would probably have been proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, and these wills are now in the National Archives..
  •  The Probate Registry in York for all wills proved since 1859. Contact details and information on probate records and family history can be found by following this link to the Courts Services website.
