The first Bath City Charter, 1189

Since the middle ages, Bath has had its own corporation or council, overseeing the affairs and needs of its citizens. Over time, the functions and responsibilities of the council have changed dramatically, and so has the area which the city covers.

The Record Office holds the original charters, minutes, leases, rate books and a huge range of other records of the corporation and the council from 1189 to the present day.

Most of these records are not yet included in the online catalogue.  However, you can see a summary of what we hold by following this link to download a list (PDF format).
