
The first Bath City Charter,
1189
Since the middle ages, Bath has had its own corporation or
council, overseeing the affairs and needs of its citizens. Over
time, the functions and responsibilities of the council have
changed dramatically, and so has the area which the city
covers.
The Record Office holds the original charters, minutes, leases,
rate books and a huge range of other
records of the corporation and the council from 1189
to the present day.
