The Bath Poor Law Union included all the parishes in Bath and some from the surrounding area. It was run by an elected Board of Guardians,  while paid officials saw to the day to day administration of relief, either in the workhouse or by other means.

A complete set of the minutes of the Board of Guardians is held by the Record Office, but unfortunately the survival of other records is very patchy.  No workhouse admission and discharge registers have survived, apart from Registers of Casuals  (vagrants who were allowed to stay only for one night), 1915-1934.
