Part of a page from a Quarter
Sessions minute book showing two entries for October 1837 with
sentences of transportation.
Very minor cases were dealt with
by magistrates at Petty Sessions, but most offences were tried
at Quarter Sessions. These were held four times a year, and
dealt with both criminal cases and some matters of local
administration.
