At the core of our collections are the records of Bath City Council (later Bath & North East Somerset Council). We hold the original charters, minutes, leases, rate books and a wide range of other records of the Corporation and the Council from 1189 to the present day.
We have a compiled a summary guide to the records that we hold which you can read here.
The Council's records are not yet fully catalogued, but a project funded by the National Cataloguing Grants Programme for Archives in 2014-2015 enabled us to develop an outline catalogue, with some sections listed in detail. Full details can be found in our online catalogue or in the summary leaflet.
Our current project 'Building a Healthier City' includes many of the Council's records relating to the Improvement Commissions and waterworks. Read more about this project here.
We also hold a set of Council minutes for the former Wansdyke District (1974-1996).
